Subject: Public Relations Seeking STNC Assistant
The Santa Rosa Junior College Public Relations department is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Short Term, Non-Continuing Public Relations Assistant position. The assignment will be 13 weeks for a minimum of 3 days per week, dependent on candidate preference and/or other department staffing levels. The assignment is expected to begin Monday, March 11 (one week training) and end Friday, June 14. Pay rate is $19.35/hour.
The Public Relations Assistant provides assistance to the Communication and Marketing Director in support of promotional activities;
and coordinates functions of Public Relations Office in the absence of the Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
An associate’s degree. Preference will be given to candidates with a specific degree/coursework in public
relations, journalism, or related field.
Two years’ experience working in an office environment. Preference given to candidates with experience working in publicity or public relations.
EXAMPLES OF KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Management and moderation of multiple social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter).
• HTML updating (via Dreamweaver) of news and press release links.
• Writing and editing of PR materials for a variety of media.
• Proofing of copy for grammatical and typographical errors (using professional style guides).
• Distribution of press releases and other promotional materials.
• Arrangement of photo shoots with professional photographers for publications and special events.
• Maintenance of District’s electronic photo archives.
• Assist with production, delivery, distribution and payment of District publications such as class schedules, college catalogs, printed programs and brochures.
• Update and maintain District’s online calendar of events; post to community event calendars.
• Coordinate media buys and reserve advertising space with appropriate media outlets; create and maintain integrated campaign spec sheets and determines production deadlines.
• Monitor and reconcile advertising and supply budgets; provide budget reports to Communication and Marketing Director as requested.
• Assist with the training and direction of the work of student assistants.

ABILITY TO:
Work under pressure to meet deadlines; establish priorities; organize and handle a variety of projects simultaneously;
edit and proof written copy for publications, broadcast, and other media outlets; operate and use photographic equipment;
communicate effectively in English; train and direct the work of student assistants; maintain cooperative working relationships;
demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse population.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Principles of public communications, information and relations; correct English usage, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary;
operation of personal computer software such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop, InDesign, Word, Excel; budget and revenue control.
