[ITT-staff] Plan for Week March 23-27

To all:

With the county and state shelter in place orders, please follow those guidelines and take care our yourselves and family.  The administration and leadership (DCC, AFA and others) will be meeting through out the week to establish a plan for how we complete this semester starting on March 30.

I have already voiced my concern for every class in our department and the need for hands on lab time.

I have an online department chair meeting tomorrow morning and I hope to have more information after that.

While we have this week without instruction, we have a couple opportunities:

  *   Review your current courses and look at what part of it could be offered through online instruction
  *   Look at Fall semester and what can we do to prepare for the next time something like fire, flu or flooding hits us again.

And lastly please respond with any thoughts you have on what we can do with our classes if we were to only be able to offer the courses through online the rest of the semester.

My thoughts are this:

  *   Missing up to 8 weeks of lab time is unfair to the student (and employers).
  *   Only completing knowledge based learning online without practical application will not prepare students properly.
  *   COR issues for lab time.
  *   If we "pass" a student this semester, are they actually ready for the next course (machine/welding students)
  *   Repeatability prevents students from then retaking the course they only completed partially (if we did "pass" them)
  *   If we do cancel the courses what does that do for students trying to complete their certs/degrees this semester?
  *   What am I missing?
