for how we complete this semester starting on March 30.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">I have already voiced my concern for every class in our department and the need for hands on lab time.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">I have an online department chair meeting tomorrow morning and I hope to have more information after that.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">While we have this week without instruction, we have a couple opportunities:<o:p></o:p></p>

<li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l1 level1 lfo1">Review your current courses and look at what part of it could be offered through online instruction<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l1 level1 lfo1">Look at Fall semester and what can we do to prepare for the next time something like fire, flu or flooding hits us again.<o:p></o:p></li></ul>

<p class="MsoNormal">And lastly please respond with any thoughts you have on what we can do with our classes if we were to only be able to offer the courses through online the rest of the semester.<o:p></o:p></p>

<li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo2">Missing up to 8 weeks of lab time is unfair to the student (and employers).<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo2">Only completing knowledge based learning online without practical application will not prepare students properly.<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo2">COR issues for lab time.<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo2">If we “pass” a student this semester, are they actually ready for the next course (machine/welding students)<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo2">Repeatability prevents students from then retaking the course they only completed partially (if we did “pass” them)<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo2">If we do cancel the courses what does that do for students trying to complete their certs/degrees this semester?<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo2">What am I missing?<o:p></o:p></li></ul>
