In November 2018, the Camp Fire devastated parts of Butte County, including the town of Paradise. One year later, Butte College is leading efforts to rebuild the tight-knit community by offering new construction programs that are putting both new students and long-time residents on a path to a good-paying job in the town they call home.

Statewide Movement to Support More Financial Aid for Community College Students Gains Momentum

One of the bills sponsored by the California Community College Chancellor’s Office, SB 291 (Leyva), is currently awaiting a hearing in the Assembly Higher Education Committee. If passed, the bill would establish the “California Community College Student Financial Aid Program” to provide need-based grant awards to eligible community college students. These need-based awards are designed to address the total cost of attendance, including non-tuition expenses like textbooks, housing, food and transportation.

Every 10 years, the U.S. Census Bureau attempts to count every person in the United States. An accurate count is one in which every person is counted only once and in the right location.
