THE POSITIONS:
WATER QUALITY SAMPLING INTERN: (1 position) Under direction of the Water Quality Field Supervisor, Lab Manager and Lab Staff, duties include: assists with distribution system and reservoir water sampling, reservoir algae investigations and reservoir algae treatments, and additional miscellaneous water quality field investigations tasks. Uses sampling equipment such as a chlorine test kit, temperature gauge, zone sampler and a datasonde with hand-held surveyor. Performs miscellaneous office tasks such as mapping sampling points, working with data and reports, and scanning documents. Additionally, performs maintenance and clean-up work as needed. Safety Boots required. Work hours will be Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This position is for just under a six (6) month duration at the Corte Madera location. Anticipated Start Date: February 2021.
Water Quality Sampling Intern Desired Background: Must be 18 years old or older and have a California Driver's License with satisfactory driving record. Must be able to perform moderate physical work and safely operate a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Must be detail oriented and organized. Education in the areas of water quality, chemistry, water treatment, biology or environmental sciences, and any knowledge of limnology is preferred. Experience with, or knowledge of, water quality sampling and equipment: datasonde use, chlorine field analyzers, GIS, etc. Familiarity of Marin streets and the ability and willingness to work safely with pesticides would also be beneficial. A California State Water Resources Control Board Drinking Water Distribution Operator License is highly desirable. Desired skills include ability to work independently and efficiently, work as a team player, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The ability to swim 100 feet and lift up to 50 pounds and any experience with the safe operation of a boat with an outboard motor is preferred as well.
WATER TREATMENT PLANT INTERN: (1 position) Under the direct supervision of a qualified and licensed Water Treatment Plant Operator, assist with the operation and maintenance of one of three different drinking water facilities. The candidate will be exposed to surface water treatment plant processes, chemical dosing, industry standard calculations, water quality laboratory tests, the operation and maintenance of analyzers, flushing and monitoring of distribution system in remote locations, facility maintenance and ground water quality verification. Safety Boots required. Work hours will be Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at one of three different facilities: San Geronimo Water Treatment Plant in Woodacre; Bon Tempe Water Treatment Plant in Fairfax; Ignacio Water Quality Station in Novato. Optional work schedules maybe considered on a case by case basis. This position is for just under a six (6) month duration. Anticipated Start Date: February 2021.
Water Treatment Plant Intern Desired Background: Must be 18 years old or older. Candidate must have current or recent enrollment in one of the following college level courses of study: Drinking Water Treatment, Wastewater Treatment, Environmental Science, Biology, or Chemistry with a career interest in the water treatment field. Must be detail orientated, possess good problem solving skills, ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, as well as have the ability to lift 50 pounds. Candidate should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.
WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM INTERN: (1 position) Under the direct supervision of a certified Water Distribution Operator, learn how to operate and maintain mechanical, electrical and control equipment. Perform inspections of mechanical and electrical equipment. Assist operators in handling consumer calls. Assist field personnel with confined space entries. Learn the basics of a potable water distribution system. Safety Boots required. Work hours will be Monday - Friday 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This position is for just under a six (6) month duration at the Corte Madera location. Anticipated Start Date: February 2021.
Water Distribution System Intern Desired Background: Must be 18 years old or older. Candidate must have current or recent enrollment in one of the following college level courses of study: Drinking Water Treatment or Distribution, Wastewater Treatment, Environmental Science, Biology or Chemistry. Candidate should possess genuine interest in a career in the waterworks field. Must be detail oriented, possess good problem solving skills, ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, and the ability to lift 50 pounds

This position is in the Records Department and will require field locating of MMWD underground pipelines and facilities using a Metro Tech 810 DX inductive locator. The work will be done in roadways and on steep slopes, which will require proper safety gear and safety practices. In addition, this work will require the ability to interpret GIS mapping data and record drawings to properly identify the location of the underground water lines. Good communications skills are necessary in order to report and resolve discrepancies found in the field. Safety Boots required. Work hours will be Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This position is for up to a six (6) month duration at the Corte Madera location. Anticipated Start Date: January 2021
Desired Background: Must be 18 years old or older. Detail-oriented, Microsoft Word, Excel, Windows.
