Do you enjoy being active within the community? The City of Napa is searching for a motivated candidate to join the team at the Recycling and Materials Diversion Division!

Through community fieldwork, you will have the amazing opportunity to promote the recycling, composting, and solid waste program! The ideal candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people, manage multiple projects simultaneously, work in teams and independently, learn software quickly, and possess a clear driving record to operate a City of Napa's vehicle.

The department has assignments available for 15-20 hour per week positions with shifts generally between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday, with the exception of workshops and special events that occur on occasional weekends and evenings throughout the year. None will work over 1,000 hours in the fiscal year (July 1 to June 30). Some flexibility exists for scheduled workdays within the Monday through Friday workweek.

This recruitment is being conducted to establish a pool of qualified candidates for non-benefited extra-help positions.

Important Note About Temporary & Part-Time Positions: Temporary and part-time employees are considered to be at-will, and are not covered by the City's Civil Service System. As a part-time or extra-help employee of the City of Napa, you will be eligible to accrue and use paid sick leave. No additional benefits are afforded to temporary employees, with the exception of participation in the mandatory temporary employee retirement plan.

TYPICAL TASKS

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Coordinate outreach to Multi-Family Residences (apartment complexes) regarding recycling and composting services;
Coordinate and manage outreach projects and educational campaigns of a variety of sizes (small to large) that vary in duration;
Conduct onsite assessments to review and record the performance of commercial recycling and composting programs;
Coordinate and conduct presentations on behalf of the City of Napa's Recycling Division to the community;
Engage with public and business owners when delivering equipment and information as needed;
Assist at workshops and special events as a face of the City of Napa's Recycling Division;
Manage and maintain inventory and storage of the City's recycling and compost equipment and related materials.Salary$14.50 - $15.00 Hourly

QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and training abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: Some experience and/or interest in environmental and waste reduction fields is preferred.

Training: High school diploma or GED.

License or Certification: Possession of California Class "C" Driver's License and a good driving record is required.

Ability to: Learn new software quickly; work effectively as a team member in a respectful and collaborative manner and independently without constant supervision in a dynamic work environment; communicate with a diverse range of people in a kind, helpful, and professional manner; manage multiple projects simultaneously; sometimes work around areas that are noisy, unclean, dusty, and have fouls odors.

Physical Characteristics: Must possess sufficient physical strength, ability, coordination and stamina to perform the required duties of a Recycling Assistant. Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds.
