Medications Program Coordinator

LifeLong Medical Care

The Medications Program Coordinator works with licensed clinicians and clinic support staff to direct patients to appropriate resources for medications. Assists providers with managing in-clinic dispensing, and is responsible for ordering, receiving, and managing medications for the clinic dispensary.

Essential Functions
1. Assists providers to determine the most appropriate source of medications for each patient. Communicates directly with patients to share information and refer to appropriate programs and resources.
2. Consults with providers, staff, patients, and pharmacists on issues associated with dispensing medications.
3. Tracks and reports on controllable medications usage patterns and costs. Assists Clinic Director and AMD by recommending strategies for reducing Rx costs.
4. Assists DEA-licensed providers with drug dispensing processes through use of pharmacy management software and direct services.
5. Provides patient referrals and assistance with applications for pharmacy manufacturers' drug assistance programs.
6. Orders medications, injectables, and medical supplies for clinic stock and dispensary use
7. Maintains the drug dispensary that houses samples, donations, DAP, and 340B drugs
8. Assists patients with Medicare Part D insurance coverage review and applications
9. Generates and analyzes pharmaceutical use reports and makes recommendations to clinic administrators and providers to maximize efficient use of DAP, 340B, and Medicare Part D insurance programs.
10. Works with LifeLong pharmacist to maintain compliance with all local, state and federal pharmacy and dispensary regulations.

Qualifications:
• Knowledgeable in pharmacy protocols and patient assistance programs.
• Understands program eligibility and insurance coverage issues.
• Proficient with use of MS Windows-based computers and software, and in MS Office. Able to learn online and local database programs.
• Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with patients and co-workers both verbally and in writing.

Education and Experience
• Possess valid California Pharmacy Technician license;
• Bachelor's degree, OR six months' experience in the field of pharmacy;
• Spanish speaking is preferred.
