Hello Ag/NR, Culinary Arts, ITT, and Shone Farm faculty and staff,

I wanted to start the week with a thank you, some encouragement, and a few updates.

This is some of the hardest work we have ever done, and the emotional and physical toll of this pandemic is very real.

Thank you for all you've done and continue to do during this unprecedented time. We are in this together to support our students and broader community.

A few updates:


1)     See Jane's message below about Faculty access to classrooms, labs or other spaces for remote instruction. There is a form to complete which will ensure District Police and Custodial are aware you will be in that space. If you need classified support (i.e. Lab Coordinator), please email that request to myself and CC Jane.

3)     Attached is the FAQ (previously sent out by Sarah Hopkins) around Classified Professionals who are telecommuting.

4)     I've re-attached the general Employee and Student FAQ's that Dr. Chong distributed on Friday afternoon, for your ease of reference.
I am compiling (many) logistical and administrative questions pertaining to refunds of student fees, student access to campus to pick up materials, course cancellations, questions for Accounting and Admissions and Records, etc. Please send additional questions my way.

Good Sunday evening, everyone.

I hope each of you found some small window of downtime over the weekend to breathe and gather yourself for the week ahead.  I managed to stay completely away any Zoom meetings, which was joy in and of itself; and did what I could to dig myself out of the chaos.  I want to thank all of you for your incredible leadership and the inhuman pace you've kept in the days since March 12.   I am humbled by your all out dedication to our students, your faculty colleagues, your families, and our community at large.  I will always remember you for how you stepped up in this critical time of need.

This evening, I'm making good on a promise we made in the employee FAQs to provide more information about faculty access to campus.  Over the weekend, we developed an online form to enable faculty to notify us if they will be using campus spaces for remote instruction or preparation of content for remote instruction.  This process will allow us to maintain a safe environment for everyone, and ensure we do not overwhelm Custodial Services or District Police.  We appreciate everyone's cooperation in gathering this information.

Feel free to forward this message to faculty colleagues and department Administrative Assistants who may be assisting faculty to complete the form.  I realize we're behind the curve on this, so please do not worry if faculty use spaces early in the week before they complete the form.  My goal is that we will have captured the majority of these requests by the end of the week.

Access to Faculty Offices:

o   As per the March 26 Side Letter, faculty members continue to have access to their offices to retrieve materials or equipment.
Access to Classrooms, Labs or Other Spaces for Remote Instruction:

o   Faculty members needing to use classrooms, labs, or other spaces on district sites to provide remote instruction or to prepare instructional content may do so by providing advance notice so we can alert Custodial Services and District Police. o   Please Note:  Students are not allowed on campus for face-to-face instruction.



o   If a faculty member's request requires the presence of anyone other than themselves (e.g. classified support staff), they need to contact that individual's supervisor and Vice President to make arrangements.



o   Faculty members working in spaces other than their office are asked to practice social distancing, wash their hands frequently, and use supplies if provided by the district in instructional spaces to clean surfaces before and after use.  Custodial services staff will also be alerted to clean spaces used for instructional purposes.
My wish is that we begin this momentous week with courage and kindness.  We are all doing the best we can do.  Whatever and however we have chosen to approach this challenge, it is exactly the right thing.  By the end of this week our students will know just how much we are there for them.
