Welcome Back BPS,
I hope everyone enjoyed their summer.  I want to make you aware of some upcoming dates and deadlines (attached) and give you an update on post-ERI preplanning that is currently happening within Academic Affairs.  The ERI has provided the college with a rare opportunity to completely reimagine ourselves from scratch.  If you could completely reorganize the college to your liking, what would that look like?  What kind of support would you need to support you and our students?  What are the challenges you would need to overcome if there were fewer administrators and classified professionals?
At an AAC retreat, we divided into three subgroups with each group working independently on this challenge.  Each group was given a stack of labels listing every discipline along with every other responsibility within Academic Affairs (i.e.: curriculum, IELM, Study Abroad, Shone Farm, Library, Media Services, etc.).  We spent a lot of time looking for previously missed opportunities.  AAC regrouped and refined our ideas at a second retreat on July 8th.  I encourage you and your colleagues to spend some time on this.  Please send me any of your creative ideas (and any potential pitfalls).  This fall, the process and different ideas will be refined and presented to the college community.  Everyone will have opportunities to provide input.  Department Chairs are working on this at DCC, there will be town halls, and other forums including a cluster wide forum this September.  Vice-President Jane Saldana-Talley would like to meet with the cluster to discuss in person, so we have booked the Maggini Conference Room (location may change to accommodate the number of attendees) for a cluster wide meeting on Friday, September 13, 2019 from 11:30 am- 12:30 pm.  This will provide an opportunity for all faculty and staff in the cluster to provide input directly to the VPAA.
