Come learn about incorporating coding and robotics to enhance your curriculum, even if you don't have a computer programming background. This event is open to both K-12 educators and community college instructors, with the goal of building partnerships between both groups.
The workshop is Saturday, February 25, from 8:30 PM - 4:30 PM and is $200 for K-12 educators; however, for SRJC faculty it is FREE!
Please see attached flyer and the text below for more information. You DO NOT need to register online. Instead, please send me an email indicating you wish to attend by Tuesday, February 21st.
Looking forward to seeing you there.

The UC Davis C-STEM Center<http://c-stem.ucdavis.edu/> will be offering a 1-Day Introductory Workshop for K-12 educators and Community College instructors at Santa Rosa Junior College on Saturday, February 25, 2017. For more details about this professional development opportunity, see the flyer (attached) or see their PD Events<http://c-stem.ucdavis.edu/teachers-administrators/professional-development/professional-development-events/> page.
C-STEM has developed and provides innovative hands-on integrated programming, robotics and math curricula along with a set of easy to use technology tools for students and offers comprehensive professional development for K-14 educators, many of whom have no experience with programming and/or robotics. Our curriculum, programming and robotics resources have been successfully used by educators in K-12 programs throughout California to improve student learning, particularly in mathematics.
C-STEM joins a distinguished group of programs with UC A-G Program Status. High schools can easily add the "A-G approved" rigorous C-STEM curriculum integrated with computing and robotics to their own school's A-G course lists to satisfy the UC/CSU admission requirements. Their curriculum is also CCSS-Mathematics and CTE Standards compliant.
The C-STEM curriculum is also one of a handful recognized computing programs recommend by a committee for Beyond Hour of Code.<https://code.org/educate/curriculum/3rd-party> Five of their activities are featured on Code.org<https://code.org/learn>'s site and are being utilized for this week's Hour of Code.
Teachers using their integrated programming, robotics and mathematics curriculum have had encouraging results in raising student's academic achievement. At their recent C-STEM Conference<http://c-stem.ucdavis.edu/teachers-administrators/c-stem-conference/2016-2/>, a California high school math teacher reported in her plenary speech that using C-STEM Algebra 1 curriculum her 9th grade class of at-risk students had 100% pass rate. The average score on the final exam for her class with at-risk students was 84% versus the district-wide average of 68% based on the same examination.
Middle school students in Cincinnati taking part in a Straight-A project, funded by Ohio Department of Education, had higher math achievement scores after just one semester of using the UC Davis C-STEM Curriculum. Leslie Silbernagel, curriculum supervisor for the Northwest Local School District, and Zach Phelps, District Data Coach, shared their team's success story through a recent podcast<http://static.theflypod.com/episodes/northwest-local-schools/> (at 2:30-10:15 minutes).
To learn more about the program, please see their January 2017 newsletter<http://c-stem.ucdavis.edu/?knews=readEmail&id=128&e=1749&k=55> and visit their website<http://c-stem.ucdavis.edu/>.
