Subject: Summary from the CTE Faculty Listening Events
Dear Senate Presidents and CTE Faculty Members,
As many of you know, the ASCCC held three Regional Faculty Conversations (2/27 Solano College, 2/28 Palomar, & 3/13 Clovis) to afford the opportunity for faculty from across the system to provide input into the work of the Board of Governors' Task Force on Workforce, Job Creation and a Strong Economy<http://doingwhatmatters.cccco.edu/StrongWorkforce/TaskForceBOGMembers.aspx>. The Task Force's goal is to increase individual and regional economic competitiveness by providing California's workforce with relevant skills and quality credentials that match employer needs and fuel a strong economy. The recommendations that come from the Task Force could dramatically change many aspects of Career Technical Education and affect our programs, our students, and our colleges.
Attached is a summary of those conversations. This information and suggestions were gleaned from these three regional meetings and will be included as a resource to support the work of the Task Force, as well as help inform the participation of our faculty representatives. Thank you to the over 150 CTE faculty who attended these Regional Conversations.
As a reminder, the timeline for the work of Task Force is an aggressive one with the recommendations going to the Board of Governors in September. The three ASCCC regional meetings are companion events to the Chancellor's Office Regional College Conversations<http://doingwhatmatters.cccco.edu/StrongWorkforce/Events.aspx>. As noted on this page of the Chancellor's Office website, the purpose of the meetings is to examine issues such as flexibility, regional responsiveness, partnerships with industry, and student portability and discuss possible strategies to make the system more effective for our students, our colleges, and our business and industry partners.
Julie
