Lauren, I would try to get a cost for everything that way we can budget for it.

Thanks,

Violet

Subject: Tomorrow's meeting/ideas

Aloha,

I have to miss tomorrow's meeting since I promised another instructor at the start of the semester that I'd sub in her class. I'm sorry! It's the only Wednesday I will miss the rest of the semester.

I spoke to Theresa from the Museum and she still needs to unpack the artifacts she's received. We'll definitely have a display in the Museum, but I'll need to check in with her after the artifacts are unpacked and catalogued.

I need to check in again with Micca Grey about the display in Doyle Library. When I talked to her last, it seems like we'll be able to do this. I'll check in with her again.

For the Ohana Area at Day Under the Oaks, I'd like to get Polynesian Nation and possibly Puente Club students to help us out. I think it would be great for them, they'd bring good energy to our festivities, and we'd get people-power.

Here are some ideas for the Ohana Area: (This will be a lot of fun!) Hula lei-making (with real flowers or paper) talk story time and/or story time reading Hawaiian books coloring pages ʻulu maika (I think it's called this) a stone is rolled between two stakes Hawaiian Checkers (not sure this is authentic, but I played it as a kid) Sand petroglyphs We could translate their names to Hawaiian and then create a craft project using their Hawaiian name Can we get a shaved ice machine? (a good one?) Tattoo stencils for arms and legs We could also have booths that teach the kids about Hawaiian Geography, Language, Culture, wildlife, etc.

I think it would be great to create a little booklet for the kids, so they can get stamps as they go through, and then if they get a certain amount of stamps, they get a prize, like Shaved Ice or something else. My kids love it when they have an activity book to complete.

More ideas to come...

As for a shirt, I vote for Red, Yellow, Black. On the shirt, I think our name and a symbol that represents us would be awesome.

Also, spring semester is nearly here. Do we want to start meeting more often when we return from Winter break? Wednesdays still work for me.

After tomorrow's meeting, let me know what else I can do.

Lauren :)
