This Training is…Open to individuals with lived experience as consumers, family members/caregivers and who are currently employed or volunteer in the public mental health system in Contra Costa, Solano, Sonoma and Napa Counties (county operated and contracted Community-Based Organizations).

Sign up for the next Peer Leadership Institute In-Person Training: Motivational Interviewing (MI): The Skills Peer Providers Need to Know!

Motivational Interviewing (MI) for Peers is a six-hour training designed to teach the fundamental concepts of MI specific to the needs of peer workers. Using examples from jobs familiar to peer workers – navigation, welcoming, linkage and advocacy – the training will address the primary philosophy and approach to the practice. Concepts and skills covered include: understanding the necessary attitude and approach for successful engagement; processes of MI; and the core interaction techniques. Additionally, peer workers will receive skills on recognizing, eliciting and working with “change talk” and how to use “change talk” for better patient/consumer outcomes.

Please note that if you cannot attend the date for your county, you are welcome to join the training at the other location.

Hello!

You might know about our Peer Leadership Institute that started this summer and is providing on going training and skill-building for peer providers in Napa, Sonoma, Contra Costa and Solano Counties.

I am sending forth this registration link in case you have students, colleagues, employees, friends or family who meet the requirements and would like to attend this training. Faculty might have qualified students, school personnel might have some peer workers on staff or family partners as volunteers - these would all be terrific referrals.

I am excited about this training as I’ve been providing Motivational Interviewing training for a better part of a decade and I am happy to be able to provide this training that addresses the specific needs and skills sets of peers.  It’s a free training and a great opportunity to obtain some very marketable and needed skills while networking and having fun!

 I am providing the training, but I am not personally registering individuals.  The links below are for registration. Please do contact me if you have questions about Motivational Interviewing or whether a person qualifies for the training, or any other training-related concern.
