Job Title: Volunteer Warmline Counselor
Company: NAMI Sonoma County - INTERN EMPLOYER
Job Type: Internship, Part Time
Degrees Wanted: None Required
Majors Wanted: Community Health Worker, Human Services Advocacy, Human Services Alcohol and Drug, Psychiatric Technician, Psychology, Social and Behavioral Sciences
Location: California
Job Description: Are you looking for a way to help your community? Would you be able to do volunteer work if you could do it from home? Do you have interest in the mental health of family members, friends, or yourself? Then we need you! The NAMI Sonoma Warmline provides support, hope, referrals, and educational information about mental health and recovery. The Warmline is staffed primarily by approved volunteers who have received warm line training. We are currently looking to expand our pool of Warmline volunteers for both morning and afternoon shifts. NAMI volunteers are family members of people with mental illness or consumers of mental health services. Warmline volunteers must be willing to develop skills in empathic listening, communication, time management, and software data entry, as well as learn basic information about mental illness and community resources. This is an exceptionally rewarding position that positively impacts the lives of others. Three training sessions followed by monthly supervision meetings are offered for free with a 6-month commitment to work on the Warmline. Santa Rosa Junior College offers internship credit for approved participation in the training and Warmline service. Volunteers may work at the NAMI office or out of their homes if computer access is available. Interested adults, who can volunteer for one or more 4-hour shift each week for a minimum of six months, should contact the NAMI office to fill out an application form and should attend a Warmline introductory training on Wednesday, June 26 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
